The Faithfulness of God

“Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments.” Deuteronomy 7:9 NASB

One of the most common and outstanding sins that people commit nowadays is unfaithfulness; and I see it everywhere — lies, gossips, non-observance of duties and responsibilities at school or at work, friends betray another, broken promises, broken families, husbands and wives separate not caring so much about the sacred bond of marriage, ditching one another as simple and easy as ditching old clothes and garments.

Who among us then can prove innocence in being unfaithful? How many times have we been unfaithful to our friends, our colleagues and bosses, our families and love ones? How many times have we been unfaithful to God, and to the light and privileges which He has entrusted to us?

How unspeakably refreshing is it though, that as we lift our eyes above all these unfaithfulness, we see and behold the One who is eternally FAITHFUL.

FAITHFUL IN ALL THINGS. FAITHFUL AT ALL TIMES. Faithfulness is one of the glorious perfections of God’s being. For God to be unfaithful would be to act contrary to His nature. He never fails, never falters, never forgets. He always does what He has said. He always fulfills what He has promised.

RELYING UPON GOD’S FAITHFULNESS. God is faithful and true. His promises are sure. He may be safely relied upon. But it is one thing to understand and accept God’s faithfulness as a divine truth; it is quite another to live and act upon it.

We are aware of the many great and precious promises of God. But are we actually resting with the assurance that He will fulfill all those promises, and that He will do for us everything that He has said?

HOLDING ON TO GOD’S FAITHFULNESS. There are seasons in our lives when we find it difficult to believe that God is faithful. Our faith is severely tried that we become sorely tired. Our eyes are filled with tears that we can no longer see the outworkings of His love. Our ears are distracted with the loud noises of the world that we can no longer hear His still small voice.

We find it hard to look for reasons to hold on, to remain faithful to God. We find it hard to seek God and His faithfulness; because it’s as if there’s a huge dark cloud that hides Him from us.

WAITING WHILE TRUSTING GOD’S FAITHFULNESS. When we become tempted to doubt the Lord’s faithfulness, we should remember that He is God and He knows what He is doing. We might not be able to comprehend everything in the present, but in His own perfect time, He will make us understand. We just have to learn to wait and believe that our Heavenly Father will never forsake His children.

FAITHFUL IN JOY. FAITHFUL IN AFFLICTIONS. God has promised us the best; but He has not withheld from us the worst. He is faithful in giving joy, as well as in sending sorrows. Our confessions of God’s faithfulness must not only be during moments of ease, but also during moments of afflictions. He is greatly honored when under trials and chastenings, we have good thoughts of Him.

When God smites us with the rod of discipline, it is faithfulness which wields it. To acknowledge this means that we humble ourselves before Him. We admit that we fully deserve His corrections. Instead of murmuring, we must thank Him for it, for the Lord never afflicts without a reason.

FAITH IN GOD’S FAITHFULNESS. The knowledge about God’s faithfulness can silence our mouths from murmuring, preserve our hearts and minds from worrying, and increase our faith and confidence in God in spite of anything.

Only as we entrust our lives and all our affairs in God’s hands, fully persuaded of His love and faithfulness, doing what is good and pleasing in His sight, may we live in peace and look forward with assurance to the days to come. ❤️

“The tempted, the anxious, the fearful, the discouraged may all find new hope and good cheer in the knowledge that our Heavenly Father is faithful. He will ever be true to His pledged word.” — A.W. Tozer

  1. I just found your blog through TR Nobel and am so very thankful! Lamentations 3: 21-26 has especially comforted me in remembering the faithfulness of God. Thank you for writing on His attributes. I own a great book by AW Pink called “The Attributes Of God” and have gone back and re-read it many times over the years. It’s great to see you write on each topic and I’m grateful for your blog! God bless you!

  3. Job 11:13-20 New International Version (NIV)
    13 “Yet if you devote your heart to him
    and stretch out your hands to him,
    14 if you put away the sin that is in your hand
    and allow no evil to dwell in your tent,
    15 then, free of fault, you will lift up your face;
    you will stand firm and without fear.
    16 You will surely forget your trouble,
    recalling it only as waters gone by.
    17 Life will be brighter than noonday,
    and darkness will become like morning.
    18 You will be secure, because there is hope;
    you will look about you and take your rest in safety.
    19 You will lie down, with no one to make you afraid,
    and many will court your favor.
    20 But the eyes of the wicked will fail,
    and escape will elude them;
    their hope will become a dying gasp.”

  5. If one knows how to remain faithful, then there will be no broken relationships, broken families and broken life. If they seek God first before they become unfaithful, they will be at peace.
